Problems of Indian Work Culture

Indian work culture is notorious for its long hours, high expectations and targets. As much as this benefits businesses, it also puts a great deal of stress on the working getting squeezed out. Here I am naming a few common problems, corporate employees in India are facing.

1. High stress levels and long work hours :

Many employees work well beyond the standard 9-5 schedule because of the work deadlines. According to a survey by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India over 41 % of Indian corporate employees suffer anxiety or depression due to long working hours and high stress environments.

2. Sedentary lifestyle and health challenges :

The desk jobs demand that employees spend most of their day sitting, leading to a sedentary lifestyle. Sitting is equal to new smoking. This inactivity is a major contributor to lifestyle diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease which are increasing among Indian corporate professionals.

3. Pressure to Perform:

The competitive nature of the corporate world in India can put immense pressure to perform on employees which leads to mental health issues many times. A study by the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations found that 60% of corporate employees experience some form of mental stress related to work pressure.

4. Lack of Work-Life Balance :

Many employees find it difficult to balance their work commitments and personal life, which leads to burnout and decreased job satisfaction. The pressure to be constantly available for work can negatively impact family life and personal health.

How corporate Yoga is making a difference:

Corporate yoga sessions provide a much needed break from sedentary lifestyle. Even short yoga breaks can improve blood circulation, enhance flexibility and reduce the physical strain of sitting for long hours. Employees at our clients have shared positive feedback about how yoga has helped them feel more energetic and physically fit which translates into better performance at work.

The mindfulness aspects of yoga, such as meditation and breath awareness enhance employees’ concentration and decision making abilities. Companies like Google have found that incorporating yoga into their wellness programs leads to higher employee engagement and improved cognitive function.

5. Building team spirit and boosting morale:

Group yoga sessions are a great way to foster a sense of belonging within the workplace. Practicing yoga together creates a shared experience that breaks down hierarchies and promotes team building. This brings sense of unity has been particularly beneficial in large organizations, where employees may otherwise feel isolated from their colleagues.

6. Promoting work life balance:

By offering corporate yoga, companies show their commitment to employee well being, which promoties healthy work environment.
